First International EB Congress in Cairo with Debra

Urgo Medical is proud to have participated in the first International Congress on EB (Epidermolysis Bullosa) in Cairo from April 25 to 28, the first ever in the Middle East and North Africa region.

An international Congress dedicated to EB

What is Epidermolysis Bullosa?

Epidermolysis bullosa is a rare, genetic skin disease, which affects around 500,000 people worldwide. Young patients are often called “butterfly children” because their skin seems as fragile as the wings of a butterfly. As there is no curative treatment currently, this painful and debilitating pathology requires specific daily treatment.

What is Debra International?

Debra is an association founded in the United Kingdom in 1978 by a group of parents whose children had EB. From these humble origins, DEBRA has grown significantly and is now international in scope. Today, nearly 50 national DEBRA groups around the world work towards improving the lives of those living with EB in their respective countries.

What happened at this Congress?

Organized by Debra International, the Congress welcomed in Cairo over 300 participants from 40 countries, including EB patients and their families, healthcare professionals, researchers, students and Egyptian officials.

Urgo Medical commitment to EB

It was an opportunity for Urgo Medical to reiterate its commitment to Debra International, as well as the actions carried out within the framework of the Urgo Foundation. Over 400 participants attended Urgo’s presentations.

Our teams presented four high-quality scientific posters, highlighting the benefits of our dressings in the care of this pathology. One of the posters was voted best poster of the Congress!

A great success for our teams! EB activities will continue throughout the year – more information to come!

Solidarity Days with the Acodège

Our teams support the Acodège, which promotes the inclusion of people with disabilities

During two Solidarity Days, 17 volunteers from our Research, Innovation and Development teams painted the walls of the workshop facility where our compression bands are packaged, alongside workers with disabilities from the Acodège.

The Acodège is a long-standing partner of Urgo Medical in Dijon. Amongst its missions, this local French association works for the inclusion of people with disabilities.

And more to come.. 12 solidarity days will be organized during the year

This initiative is the first in a series of 12 solidarity days organized throughout the year. 🎯The aim? To improve the Acodège workplace, from painting the walls to landscaping and adding wall protection.

A very positive actions for our teams

💪It was a shared moment of emotion, mutual aid and encounters in a caring environment.

Jean-François Robert, General Manager of the Urgo Research, Innovation and Development Department, and Thomas FRIGIOLINI, Director of Acodège, welcomed the teams and got to work!

As a Caring Company, we’re proud to have a positive impact locally.

🙏We thank everyone involved on that occasion!

Women & Girls in Science at Urgo Medical

Did you know? Over 68% of our team working in our Research, Innovation and Development departments are women. We met seven of them to know what drives them on a daily basis, and how they envision the future for women and girls in science.

At Urgo Medical, we believe in science.

Every day the women and men of our departments change patients’ lives by imagining and developing unique evidence-based solutions in wound care.

On the occasion of the International Day of Women & Girls in Science, we asked seven women from our RID department what drives them on their day-to-day work, and how they see the future of science for girls and women.

Their answers?

They all share a passion for their profession, a never-ending curiosity, and a great perseverance to carry out high-impact projects for patients.

They are also enthusiastic about seeing the barriers to entering and pursuing a scientific career disappear more and more for women over time, enabling new perspectives and bringing #diversity to these fields.

Urgo Medical won two prizes at the SAWC Fall 2023

Urgo Medical won two prizes at the SAWC Fall 2023 (Symposium of Advanced Wound Care) for its posters presentations. The SAWC is the annual wound care congress for healthcare professionals (+ 1600 attendees).

What are poster presentations?

Posters presentations summarize research led in innovative areas of wound care, giving visibility and strength to our solutions.

In what categories do Urgo Medical won the prizes?

Debashish Chakravarthy, Ph.D, won the “Highest Scoring Poster Abstract in Clinical Research” for Urgo Clean Ag.

🏆Urgo Clean Ag has been studied in both clinical trials, as well in large real life observational studies on a pediatric cohort: they demonstrate its safety and efficacy in supporting the debridement of slough, and overcoming one of the biggest barriers to wound healing, which is the presence of necrotic debris. Pediatric studies in wound care are generally rare, so the selection of this poster abstract is particularly gratifying.

Congrats to Serge Bohbot MD., Urgo Medical Medical Affairs Director, and Laetitia Thomassin, PhD of Urgo Global Medical Affairs, who worked with Debashish Chakravarthy, Ph.D, of Urgo Medical North America, to analyze the pediatric data.

Debashish also won the “Highest Scoring Poster Award in Laboratory Research” for Vashe.

🏆 In this poster, Vashe was studied to demonstrate the dissolution of artificial wound eschar in a time dependent manner. This poster confirmed that Vashe can help promote the removal of wound slough and debris

Congrats to Vincent Peyrou, PhD of our Research, Innovation & Development teams, Svetlana Panicheva Ph.D, and Debashish Chakravarthy!
Our Research, Innovation & Development teams also thank the poster production group at Urgo Medical North America.

Urgo Medical North America can be proud of these awards that embody the way we work at Urgo Medical: we create innovative and effective solutions supported by clinical evidence, with a winning mindset.

The European Sustainable Development Week 2023 at Urgo Medical

In September 2023, the European Sustainable Development Week was in full swing at Urgo Medical!

This year’s ESDW theme, was “Everyday actions”. Attendees discovered tips they could apply to everyday life, from sorting mail in the office, to using natural products in the bathroom, to reducing food waste!

The ESDW is a real opportunity for Urgo Medical teams to take part in workshops on sustainable actions:

  • 🐝At Chenôve site, participants made reusable beeswax wraps, discovered the tricks of successful composting and understood the role of bees within the ecosystem.

  • 🧴The Paris teams were introduced to ethical fashion and attended several Do It Yourself workshops. Participants created their own cosmetics or household products, made with natural products, for more eco-friendly everyday use.

  • 👚At Veauche site, employees donated their clothes to a humanitarian organization, and in Chevigny, they could clean their offices and sort out their waste.

Thank you to all our attendees, let’s meet again next year!
